Granite table tops are by far the longest lasting, most durable way to insure that your table will stay looking good for a long time to come. In these times of man made materials, pressed linoleum and plastic tiles, there is still nothing that beats the proven quality of a stonework table top.

Marble, slate, granite are all common forms of a stone work table tops and all provide different benefits at different costs. Granite and marble are the two that are used most for tables and the like. Granite is not as porous as marble and will not stain as easily, though both will provide a solid, heavy feel to your tables.

Natural stone such as this has been used throughout history because of its durable, long lasting properties. Granite is a stone that is built to last and will not erode or warp do to liquid or standing water. It is easily washable as you can use almost any cleaner on the stone surface. Granite table tops and their nonporous nature will allow them to dry quickly.

The three most common uses for stone work tops are in the kitchen and the bathroom as well as for tables. In the bathroom it is practical as well as very aesthetically pleasing, soap scum and other bothersome things do not collect, grow or multiply on the granite as well as linoleum or other standard bathroom materials. Granite is a highly effective and, most would agree, a great looking solution to a variety of things and makes great tables.

You can find natural stone table tops just about anywhere if you look in the right place. The local hardware store can probably point you where to find a local dealer, or you could go to almost any of the chain hardware stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. On occasion, you can also find the tables, pre-assembled, at different general purpose stores, though many times they will not be a fully natural product or may just be a 1/16th of an inch thick layer.

If you would like to make your own granite table top, that can be done to. Make sure to have a sturdy base as the granite is very heavy and needs something solid to sit on. Go to your favorite hardware store and order a custom cut, size and shape, piece of natural material and prepare to piece your table together. With a lot of work and a little planning, you can create your own granite masterpiece.
